Recently, Stanford University in the United States, in collaboration with the Elsevier database, released the list of the world's top 2% scientists for the year 2023 (World's Top 2% Scientists 2023). Professor Zhang Yong from the PhotonMind team has been included in this prestigious list.
The "World’s Top 2% Scientists" list is based on the Scopus database and takes into account differences in various sub-disciplines. It comprehensively uses six key indicators: 1) Total citations; 2) Hirsch H-index (a composite quantitative indicator used to assess both the quantity and level of academic output of researchers); 3) Schreiber Hm-index adjusted for co-authorship; 4) Independent authors; 5) Independent or first authors; 6) Citation count of articles as the sole, first, or last author. From a pool of nearly 7,000,000 scientists, it selects the top 2% worldwide, categorizing them into 22 fields and 174 subfields. The purpose of this list is to provide a metric for assessing a scientist's long-term research performance, aiming to objectively and authentically reflect their impact. In mainland China, 9,013 scientists have been selected, accounting for 4.40% of the total.
